L’Académie des Oscars a communiqué les 97 scores admissibles dans la catégorie musique originale. Parmi la liste d’une sélection riche, on retrouve le magnifique travail du compositeur français Ludovic Bource pour THE ARTIST (lire notre critique), mais également celui d’Alexandre Desplat pour Extrêmement fort et incroyablement près, Harry Potter et les Reliques de la Mort – partie 2 et Les marches du Pouvoir. Thomas Newman est cité 4 fois pour L’Agence (The Adjusment Bureau), LA COULEUR DES SENTIMENTS (critique), L’Affaire Rachel Singer (The Debt) et THE IRON LADY, tout comme Michael Giacchino pour CARS 2 (critique), MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 (critique), SUPER 8 (critique) et Monte Carlo. Danny Elfman est nommé 2 fois pour Real Steel et Restless, John Williams pour LES AVENTURES DE TINTIN (critique), Henry Jackman pour X-MEN : LE COMMENCEMENT et Winnie l’Ourson, et enfin Patrice Doyle pour LA PLANÈTE DES SINGES : LES ORIGINES (critique), Harry Escott pour SHAME (critique) et Trent Reznor et Atticus Ross pour MILLÉNIUM LES HOMMES QUI N’AIMAIENT PAS LES FEMMES. Curieusement, DRIVE (critique) n’y figure pas car Cliff Martinez est cité uniquement pour le score de Contagion.

Seuls 5 seront retenus lors des révélations des nominations officielles le mardi 24 janvier 2012 à 5h30 du matin heure locale au Samuel Goldwyn Theater. La 84e cérémonie, animée Billy Crystal, se déroulera le dimanche 26 février 2012 au Kodak Theatre à Hollywood et sera retransmise en direct par le réseau de télévision ABC dans plus de 225 pays dans le monde.
